MPP’s Dowie and Leardi Celebrate Labour Day in Windsor

NEWSSeptember 5, 2022

Windsor ― Today, Andrew Dowie, MPP for Windsor-Tecumseh and Anthony Leardi, MPP for Essex attended the Labour Day Parade in Windsor, as the government builds on its plan to deliver bigger paycheques, greater opportunity, and stronger protections for workers and their families.

“I’m honoured today to march in support of my wife Mary, a proud Unifor Local 240 worker for 15 years. Workers are the beating heart of our community, and to each and every one of you, we say thank you,” said Andrew Dowie. “Our government will continue to have your back, fighting to bring good jobs to Windsor and put more money back in your pockets.”

Across Ontario, nearly 400,000 jobs are currently going unfilled. To ensure everyone who wants to work can get the training they need to earn more take-home pay, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development is investing more than $1 billion annually in programs like Better Jobs Ontario, which provides participants with up to $28,000 in funding for tuition, transit passes, childcare, and living expenses.

“Today we pay tribute to the everyday heroes who keep Ontario moving,” said Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. “To build a stronger Ontario that works for everyone, our government will continue to lead the way with historic changes that rebalance the scales and put more workers in the driver’s seat of their careers, and their lives.”

In the spring, the government introduced and passed Working for Workers 2 which, among other things:

These changes are in addition to the province’s commitment to design a health care benefits plan tied to millions of workers who currently don’t have access to them.
