Ontario Building Better, More Modern Health Care Facilities
Province Investing in Windsor-Essex for Infrastructure Upgrades and Improvements in Hospital and Community Health Care Settings
Windsor ― The Ontario government is investing over $182 million this year to support critical upgrades and repairs at 131 hospitals and 65 community health care facilities across the province.
“Our government is making investments to ensure Ontario’s hospitals and community health infrastructure continue to be state-of-the-art facilities,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “This funding will also help build the capacity we need to end hallway health care and ensure people continue to receive world-class care.”
“This funding from the province strongly supports Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, Windsor Regional Hospital, Canadian Mental Health Association and Charity House (Windsor) and helps to address the urgent health care infrastructure renewal needs that we have in Windsor-Essex,” said Windsor-Tecumseh Member of Provincial Parliament Andrew Dowie. “I’m proud that our government has never wavered in their commitment to Windsor–Tecumseh, and I’m equally thrilled to work with each of our partners towards local health care improvements, including our top priority to deliver the new Windsor-Essex Hospitals System as quickly as possible.”
“Doug Ford and the provincial government are once again showing concrete commitments to the people of Essex County, this time in health care,” said Anthony Leardi, MPP for Essex.
Ontario is providing $175 million to hospitals through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund and over $7.6 million to community health service providers through the Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund. Windsor is receiving $2.8 million in funding from both the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund and the Community Infrastructure Renewal fund.
Through the 2022 Ontario Budget: Ontario’s Plan to Build, and as part of its plan to build a stronger, more convenient and connected health care system, the government is implementing the most ambitious plan for hospital expansion in Ontario’s history. This includes the New Windsor-Essex Hospitals System and more than 50 other major hospital projects that would add 3,000 new beds over 10 years.

Quick Facts
- To further support the high-quality care provided by Ontario’s hospitals, the government is providing an additional $827 million to hospitals across the province, representing a four per cent increase from last year. This will ensure all publicly funded hospitals receive a minimum two per cent increase to their budgets to help them better meet patient needs while building a stronger health care system.
- To support growing demands on the health care system, Ontario’s investments over the next 10 years will lead to $40 billion in health infrastructure across the province. These investments will increase capacity in hospitals, build new health care facilities and renew existing hospitals and community health centres.
- Community health facilities are publicly funded and provide a range of programs to patients across the province, including primary care, community mental health and addictions services, allied health care such as physical therapy and respiratory therapy, and programs and services delivered by a public health unit.
