WINDSOR — The Ontario government is providing $2,419,110 to help renew and rehabilitate local infrastructure in the Town of Tecumseh.  The funding is being delivered through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) and is part of the government’s overall investment of $400 million in 2023.

“OCIF provided invaluable financial support for storm water relief in the community during my time on Tecumseh Town Council,” said Andrew Dowie, Member of Provincial Parliament for Windsor—Tecumseh.  “I’m delighted that the Ontario Government values the sound asset management principles adopted over the last number of years by the Town of Tecumseh and is building support for municipalities working to improve our residents’ services.”

OCIF provides funding to eligible communities every year to help them address critical infrastructure needs, including road, bridge, water, and wastewater projects. In 2022 Tecumseh used OCIF funding to support the following projects:

2022 – $1,365,000 – Tecumseh Road Storm & Road Improvements (Lexham to Regent)

“We are grateful to the Government of Ontario for their continued support and for investing these funds in the Town of Tecumseh.  These funds will help build on our infrastructure requirements to continue to support growth in our community,” said Mayor Gary McNamara.

“Ontario’s small, rural and northern communities, like Tecumseh, are essential to the growth and prosperity of the province,” said Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure. “Our government is continuing to provide stable funding to meet local infrastructure needs and provide support in response to pressures from inflation. By supporting key community infrastructure projects, we are helping to grow and build safer, more resilient communities for generations to come.”

In December 2021, the Ontario government announced an additional $1 billion for critical infrastructure projects that support economic growth and job creation in small, rural and northern communities, bringing the government’s total investment to nearly $2 billion dollars over five years.
