Windsor, ON – The Ontario government is investing $125,000.00 through the Experience Ontario 2024 program to support the 20th Anniversary of the Windsor International Film Festival. This is part of a $19.5 million total investment that is being made in communities across the province to encourage Ontarians to explore all that these communities have to offer – staying longer in local accommodations, eating in restaurants and supporting small businesses.

“The Windsor International Film Festival is one of the most treasured annual cultural events in Windsor-Essex, and the Ontario Government’s ongoing commitment to the event is testament to the incredible growth that WIFF has seen over two decades,” said Andrew Dowie, Member of Provincial Parliament for Windsor-Tecumseh.  “WIFF has grown to be the leading volunteer-run festival in Canada, showcasing local, national and international films while growing its economic impact to Windsor-Essex every year.  The future for WIFF is truly bright, and I am thrilled that the Ontario Government is supporting the tremendous success that WIFF has truly earned.”

“Festivals and events enrich the lives of Ontarians and strengthen local economies,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “I am proud that our government is supporting festival and event organizers through the Experience Ontario 2024 program, helping them to create unique local experiences that will attract visitors, create jobs and promote economic development.”

“The Province of Ontario has proven again and again that they are committed to building and growing WIFF into the nationally recognized, industry leading cultural destination that it is”., said WIFF Executive Director Vincent Georgie.  “As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary, our hearty thanks goes to Minister Lumsden and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport for their staunch support and to our tireless local champion MPP Dowie for delivering, once again, for our community”.
