Province Expanding Access to Addictions Treatment Services in Windsor-Essex
May 21, 2026
WINDSOR— The Ontario government is expanding access to addictions treatment services in Windsor-Essex with an investment of $58,884 for House of Sophrosyne to support its Addictions Day/Evening Treatment programming in 2025–26. Beginning in the 2026–27 fiscal year, this funding will increase to an annualized investment of $352,827. This support is part of the province’s broader commitment to improving access to care and treatment for individuals and families affected by substance use and addictions.
“People struggling with addictions in our community deserve access to compassionate and high-quality care when and where they need it,” said Andrew Dowie, MPP for Windsor–Tecumseh. “This investment in House of Sophrosyne will help strengthen local addictions treatment services and ensure more individuals in Windsor-Essex can access the support they need on their path to recovery.”
This funding is part of Ontario’s increased investment of up to $3.4 million in 2025–26, growing to more than $16.6 million in 2026–27, to expand the delivery of Rapid Access Addictions Medicine (RAAM) Clinics and Addictions Day/Evening Treatment programs across the province.
These investments will help improve access to medication-assisted treatment and intensive addictions treatment services, including in Northern, rural and remote communities.
“This funding will scale existing day treatment options, making recover services accessible to individuals maintaining employment or enrolled in secondary and post-secondary education”, said Karen Waddell, CEO House of Sophrosyne.
Recognizing that substance use disorders ripple across entire families, the House of Sophrosyne is also launching a dedicated Grandparent Support Program. This program will offer targeted emotional, educational, and navigational support for grandparents who have stepped in to raise the children of adult children battling addiction. To remove structural barriers to care, on-site childminding services will be provided for participants attending these programs.
House of Sophrosyne provides critical recovery support services in the Windsor-Essex region by empowering and fostering healthier lives and stronger communities through comprehensive in-house and community-based addiction care.
The province’s expanded investments are part of Ontario’s ongoing commitment to connecting people to mental health and addictions services faster and closer to home.
